About Us

The Octagon House is a group of independent practitioners who offer mental health services to individuals, families and couples. Each therapist works as an individual provider within this group setting to offer compassionate support to their clients. All life situations are welcome, and many approaches to therapy are offered within this peaceful and historic setting. All clinicians are licensed and certified professionals who work to offer a safe environment.

Beth Boshoven, LMSW ACSW

Beth is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked for many years with individuals and families. The focus of her practice is to offer therapeutic support to clients who experience trauma, anxiety and depression. Beth has extensive experience working with pediatric and adult medical issues, including oncology and life limiting illness. She enjoys working with children and adults to offer strong clinical support in a safe and friendly setting. Beth is trained in many therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Trauma Focused CBT, Marital Therapy and EMDR. Beth also has worked over the past 15 years with families who have experienced the loss of a child.

Beth is a graduate of Aquinas College and received her Masters of Social Work Degree from Western Michigan University. She has written program material for non-profits supporting families, and has extensive volunteer experience in our community.

Cindy Haner- Velzen LMSW C-DBT

Cindy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has extensive experience working with individuals, couples and families in the areas of emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and building healthy relationships. She has been trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Cindy works to identify strengths and enhance communication with couples and families. She also works with individuals in the area of addictions utilizing the 12 step model and Alternative Methods to healing. Cindy works with the client in an interactive process to develop a personalized blueprint for Wellness and to enhance the connection to the self.

Melanie Hogeterp LMSW

Melanie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a broad range of knowledge and experience in the areas of parenting, foster care, adoption, attachment, trauma, sexual assault, anxiety and chronic illness. Melanie is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Trauma Reduction and play techniques to encourage expression of distress. She especially enjoys working with children and teens who are living with anxiety and depression. Her strong therapeutic skills, passion for helping individuals and families who are experiencing stress, and her ability to connect with them makes Melanie a uniquely qualified therapist. Sue Jongekryg LMSW, TF-CBT

Sue is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works to support clients who have experienced severe emotional injury, such as those who have experienced refugee trauma, relational trauma, and post abortion stress. In therapy, she incorporates Trauma Focused CBT and Mindfulness to fully access the moment. Sue is trained in multiple treatment modalities, including EMDR, to offer clinical support to clients.  Her special areas of interest include grief, depression, childhood trauma, sex addiction and partners of sex-addicts, and mid-life transitions. She is a graduate of Southern Connecticut University and received her Masters of Social Work from Michigan State University.  Sue enjoys working with tween, teens, adults and couples, and is honored to work with each person on their journey.
