About Us

The Octagon House is a group of independent practitioners who offer mental health and other services to individuals, families and couples.  Each therapist works as an individual provider within this group setting to offer compassionate support to their clients. All life situations are welcome, and many approaches to therapy are offered within this peaceful and historic setting. All clinicians are licensed and certified professionals who work to offer a safe environment.

Cindy Haner- Velzen LMSW C-DBT

Cindy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has extensive experience working with individuals, couples and families in the areas of emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and building healthy relationships. She has been trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Cindy works to identify strengths and enhance communication with couples and families. She also works with individuals in the area of addictions utilizing the 12 step model and Alternative Methods to healing. Cindy works with the client in an interactive process to develop a personalized blueprint for Wellness and to enhance the connection to the self.

Melanie Hogeterp LMSW

Melanie Hogeterp LMSW is a clinical social worker serving children, teens, and families who are in distress. Her mission is to provide a safe, environment for her clients to disarm defenses, practice new skills, increase emotional literacy, and build competencies. She works with individuals and families to process traumas and reduce distress.  She works with parents to add to their toolbox of parenting skills. Melanies's approach to treatment is based in attachment theory and she employs a variety of practice techniques as they apply to the needs of her clients. Sue Jongekryg LMSW, TF-CBT

Sue is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works to support clients who have experienced severe emotional injury, such as those who have experienced refugee trauma, relational trauma, and post abortion stress. In therapy, she incorporates Trauma Focused CBT and Mindfulness to fully access the moment. Sue is trained in multiple treatment modalities, including EMDR, to offer clinical support to clients.  Her special areas of interest include grief, depression, childhood trauma, sex addiction and partners of sex-addicts, and mid-life transitions. She is a graduate of Southern Connecticut University and received her Masters of Social Work from Michigan State University.  Sue enjoys working with tween, teens, adults and couples, and is honored to work with each person on their journey.

Josie Pursch LMT

Josie is a Licensed Massage Therapist and a graduate of Everest Institute. Josie specializes in  Deep Tissue Massage and Trigger Point Massage. She offers Aromatouch, Swedish Massage, and Prenatal Massage.  She is certified in Lymphatic Drainage and is trained in Kinesiology Taping. She has worked for the past eight years in a professional chiropractic office. She has experience working with clients in a rehabilitation setting, including with clients who are experiencing carpal tunnel, sciatica, frozen shoulder, and other health issues.
